Overheard on Rediff.com
no chanceby Full2njoy on Mar 29, 2007 08:56 AMTill the 50 year old airhostess aunties with their faces looking like a cake (due to the makeup) are sacked and some youngsters are recruited and good service is ensured, there is no chance for Air Indian against Emirates, SIA, BA etc.Its like trying to paint the donkey and trying to pass it off as a horse. no point going in for a cosmetic change. truth is nothing run by the govt functions in India.
RE:no chanceby bharat on Mar 29, 2007 09:04 AMTypical Air India/ Indian Airlines Airhostess:1. Tummy cascading over the saree.2. Can barely pass through the aisle with the backside bouncing against the seats as she walks.3. Facial expression as if someone has forced her to drink castor oil.
I can’t seem to recollect the last time I travelled in any of these national airlines, but somehow by the thought of it and the things I heard, I seriously would prefer travelling by train than travel in one of these airlines. As if stories of the pathetic service, food quality and young old hostess were not enough, there were recent stories on how the aircrafts are not tuned and managed according to current industry standards.

If only they accept that commercial contracts just get you fame, and not game, they wouldn’t have gone down the way they did. I usually don’t watch cricket, nor am I interested in it, but the way India played yesterday is worthy of few remarks. The result of the game was no different than what people expected looking at the Indian innings. For the second time in two World Cups, India – so proud of its batting – had been bowled out in its opening game by a lowly-rated team.
On the other side, our favorite competitors, Pakistan have been bruised out of the worldcup when they lost to Ireland. So for all those who made plans to watch India play Pakistan in the next round will have to do away with watching some other teams compete.
What’s with Republic day security in Delhi and arrest of militants from Seelampur? Not that I live there, or have a particular liking to that colony, but I feel it’s too obvious for anyone to have disbelief in reports of LeT men arrested in Seelampur every year, year after year. Either the local Police Station at Seelampur is too efficient in nabbing the so called terrorist suspects, or Seelampur is not a good place to hide as other places in Delhi are. So what distinguishes the infamous locality from others, provided it’s neither too close to Pakistan or Bangladesh border nor it has caves like Tora Bora to breed terrorists, is an interesting question to think about. The arrests in Seelampur are nothing but a prime example of how reputation precedes the reputed.

With the recent teaser on Apple.com page, the anticipation about iPhone couldn’t be more. Even if it is not iPhone, there is something coming up today. There is a twitter page to keep yourself updated on MacWorld. TUAW has also planned live blogging from the event.
I have been part of few mysteryZots by Brian Ball, but never thought he would turn out to be too snooty to be liked. In a juicy and sensational mud slinging, Garrett Murray, original xPad developer alleged Brian Ball of macZot fame to go back on contract worth $4000. For those mac users who haven’t used xPad because it was worth $9.99, Garett has put it up as a freeware. Digg has the complete story with must read comments.

For as long as I have read about Iraq, Saddam Hussein has been the only name that I can associate with that country. With American invasion of Iraq and capturing of Saddam Hussein, people were left to wonder why was he not shot dead till now. America for once wanted to glamorise the justice process that it has instated in Iraq. I never really was bothered why America invaded Iraq, went about killing enough people, and calling the process as fight against terrorism. However I feel sad about the way execution of Saddam was carried out. In less than 60 days he was sent to the gallows, and hung a day before the New Year’s eve, it clearly showed how America made mockery of the judicial system in Iraq. As someone quite rightly said:
Today marks the end of an evil era, the end of an evil era and the beginning of an even worse one

It was difficult to imagine that Sanjay Dutt would be declared guilty. One one side where Priyadarshani Mattoo case reached an applaudable verdict, Sanjay Dutt was sentenced 3 years imprisonment. I feel like shouting on top of my voice to let him go !

Sometime back in July 2006, when the controversy around Big Brother erupted in Australia, it sure made a round of news in Indian dailies, or atleast on their web editions. I was surprised then how Indian television did not copy / steal the concept and make it into an Indian soap. Fast Forward to Nov 2006. Enter Big Boss.
As I see Arshad Varsi announcing the launch of Big Brother on Sony Television, I feel aghast. Probably I have seen all this and therefore I am making a comparison. Or probably my subconscious mind feels disgusted with the cheap copies that made Big Brother to Big Boss. Big Boss, as they launch, will surely be a hit amongst the Indian crowd, with the masala it pumps into the everyday life. Employees will have things to talk about while at work, call centre agents will attempt to morph into one of the characters and some feminist will rant about how sick indian men could be. Believe me, each one of them will enjoy.
