  • If only I had multiple Macs with screens lined up on my desk, I will want to use Teleport
  • This is one of the best flash websites I have seen. Ironically the guy doesn’t even own a Mac, and is running a drive to collect $1000.

Coup in Thailand

After Pakistan, it’s Thailand’s turn to display the fall of democracy.
Thai state of emergency declared after ‘coup attempt’

Tanks surrounded government buildings in Bangkok today and the Thai Prime Minister declared a state of emergency amid fears of a military coup.

I hope this cleans up the nation a bit.

Waris Shah

After countless nights of listening the track Waris Shah (Pinjar OST), my former roommate Ranjit and I had several arguments on what it actually meant.

As a background to people unfamiliar with the track or the movie, I suggest you should watch the movie once. Pinjar is the only movie after Tamas that has ever potrayed problems of partition in a true sense. Many movies have shown people walking across borders in 1947, but none actually highlighted what actually happened on the journey. Hindus and Muslims took equal turns to inflict an orgy of murders, looting and rape to their respective counterparts. Whether it was in Amritsar or Lahore, the impact of lives of migrants will always be the same. How India became Hindustan is yet another story that you should consider investigating through the eyes of Khushwant Singh or Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
I am neither a Desh Bhakt not a fanatic hindustan-fundamentalist. I just enjoyed listening to the track Waris Shah for the calm music it is composed in. For the first few times, I just though it to be yet another punjabi ballet, till Ranjit once cried his heart out to explain me what it actually means. So after reading few books I finally came across this verse and its translation.

iPods are now PC + Mac

So much so for Apple being a Mac oriented company. The new iPod Nano now says “4GB 1000 songs PC + Mac” rather than from my 3G iPod that says “20 GB Mac + PC“. Check it out here

It’s Showtime…

With the rumours of new models of Apple iPods taking rounds around Apple Showtime Event on 12th September, many people I know had set aside couple of hundred dollars for their new investment. And when it finally happened, it was about 5 seconds of Bob Dylan followed by Steve Jobs in his usual self, launching new generation iPods, along with the latest iTunes software. If this was not enough, the chief also introduced a prototype of iTV, a conceptual media centre from Apple. The sneak preview of their new product is something that Apple never believes in, but probably they wanted to attract few remaining Windows Media Centre fans or they just wanted to slap Microsoft for their upcoming Longhorn once again.

The New Generation iPods: iPod 5.5G – Bring it On!

Apple finally decides to introduce bright screen video iPods that are 60% brighter than the previous video versions. And when people just thought 60GB iPods were the ones that can never be used to their full capacity, folks at Apple proudly presented their 80 GB version.

Oh Dilli!

if at any point of time you feel the pseudo-modernization of society in delhi is slowing down, head over to any coffee joint in south delhi. You will never cease to observe girls aged 20-26 walking around in shortest shirts possible with ultra mild cigarettes in their hands. Now before people accuse me of being an orthodox sexist, I must comment about the guys who bring accompany girls to the joints. They are wannabe metro-sexual, all wearing designer shirts with sleeves rolled up and the trendiest cell phones in their hands. Out of about 50 people sitting in Barista, Green Park, I could not count more than 15 enjoying their coffee. Others chose to order ice-tea or some sort of fruit punch. Ordering a non-caffein product in a coffee shop is no less a sin than ordering a pepperoni pizza at billu da dhaba.

DU Polls

You just can’t miss the nuisance created by Delhi University polls if you’re in delhi at this time of the year. NSUI and ABVP, now also joined by INO, are at their hooligan best. The kilometer long processions, bursting firecrackers on roads, blocking traffic and throwing away posters and leaflets are just some of the things that our student leaders enjoy doing. Ironically on paper it has all been shown to cost less that Rs 10,000 which is the stipulated budget for student poll elections. A leading daily newspaper estimates that the parent political party (Congress for NSUI and BJP for ABVP) spend around Rs 50,00,000 per candidate.
