Firefox 2 RC 1 experience

I have been using Firefox 2.0 RC 1 ever since it was launched. Some of the in-built features such as spellcheck and session saver convinced me partially overlooking the pain of not being able to use del.icio.us plugin that I use the most. And then came the Pinstripe theme which convinced me completely to go for Firefox 2 RC 1, but the problem of the plugin not working was still bothering me somewhere. As I was looking for a tool similar to delicious plugin, I saw Nightly Tester Tool which enables you to install the extensions that are incompatible with the nightly builds of Firefox. So if you know your extension will work, or you are confident enough, go ahead and acquire Firefox 2 RC 1, Pinstripe theme and Nightly Tester Tool to get the best browsing experience.

Now it’s Dell’s Turn

So after Apple showed the world how to really make money from selling mp3 players, Microsoft released its fscked up Zune. And if that was not enough, now Dell wants to launch Dell Digital Jukebox and Dell Music Service by Q4 2006 or early next year. Going by the quality of products Dell makes, even John Gruber couldn’t resist writing on it. Check it out here

Cutting down the Unemployment Count

Today, I made my contribution in cutting down total number of unemployed youths in India. Although I don’t start working until day after tomorrow, I still can be called employed. The company that I now work for, don’t want me to blog about them in any way so I cannot disclose where I will be working. And No its not CIA or FBI. Just a small UK based information security company.

iTV : Selling more Razors than Blades

Excellent write-up by Robert Cringely on future of iTV amongst other digital video market giants. From Swimming With Sharks

So for the moment Apple tells Wal-Mart that movies sold through the iTunes Store won’t be a threat because of their lower than DVD resolution. When that fails, Apple will point out that HD-DVD and Blu-ray are coming and Wal-Mart should stop worrying. But eventually Apple will succumb to its need to sell yet more iPods and will point out that its little gizmo is a fine substitute for an optical disc. Take your iPod to Target and fill it with movies. Or, better still, buy an iPod at Target and THEN fill it with movies. Remember that in the end this is all about selling more razors, not more blades, so movie sales don’t really matter much to Apple as long as iPods are flying off the shelves.

Hezbollah cracks Israel radio code

What is being seen as one of the most important observations in Israel-Hezbollah war, the radio communication used by Israel’s army was severly compromised. Israel uses Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System designed by US, based on frequency hopping principle. Although it is believed to be an operational error on Israel army’s behalf, interceptions were enough for Hezbollah to find out Israel tank movements. Details here.

Anonymity on Internet

Until I did a summer research on Anonymity and Privacy on public networks, I was never a strong advocate of the concept of anonymity. For those of you who think anonymity is only required by the whistleblowers and miscreants, read no further. There is enough literature on the Internet to convince you morons.

Coming back to the concept of anonymity, there have never been too many tools available for non-geeks to play around with anonymous browsing. The TOR project was the only surviving anonymity product, but it required considerable tweaking on the system. Recently I came across a complete package from the guys at TOR for single click install on Windows, Linux and Mac machines. I thought this is the best it can get until few days back when I discovered Torpark – a portable anonymous surfing browser based on Mozilla framework. Nothing needs to be installed and you can just run it off a USB drive. Very cool !

Urinals by Clark Sorensen

From Clark Sorensen’s site:

Clark Sorensen has created some of the most amazing and beautiful urinals one is likely to ever see. Each is meticulously hand built and one of a kind – formed from high fire porcelain and fired to cone 10 (2300° F). These pieces are magnificent works of art but they are also fully functioning vitreous porcelain fixtures that can be plumbed and used in a bathroom.

I am interested to know who is going to invest $7000 on a fscking urinal.
