Much has been said and written about how Delhi Metro has solved traffic and commuting problems in all sectors that it is currently operational in. Today I got a chance to travel by Delhi Metro from Rajouri Gardern to Barakhamba Road. The journey could have also been covered in an autorickshaw, only that it would cost multiple times, and will leave a back-ache for you as a token of appreciation. Anyhow, as I reached at the Metro station, I was astonished to see the impeccable cleanliness of the infrastructure, someone sitting at a customer service desk, and working elevators that take you up to the platform. The trains run on time with services every 6 mins. Now that’s way better than Connex Melbourne that I initially thought i’d compare Metro to.
The trains were far cleaner than those in Australia, as no one left McDonald bags or empty beer bottles in the carriages. The internals of the carriages have been made keeping the local use in mind. There are no flimsy and fashionable handrails. Instead, you’ll find sturdy, durable and convenient handrails to hold on to. The doors open on their own, leaving no space for miscreants to fiddle with. The ticket system in India would not have been too successful, and thus metro has replaced them with tokens and smartcards.
I think it’s quite an achievement for Delhi government to run Metro service after their reputation with DTC bus service.
I have been in search of a web based email client that allows me to use my personal email when I am not in front of my ibook. I tried mail2web.com and horde but the overall experience was far from satisfactory. Finally I wanted to try Gmail’s hosted option for personal domains. It worked like a charm. The interface is as easy to use as Gmail’s and there is no comparison for loading speed across all browsers/platforms.
So now I have redirected webmail.sumeetsingh.net to google’s hosted email domain, and can easily check the emails both on my ibook using pop and on web based interface.
I salute the nation that survived Tsunami, Congress Raj, countless religious riots and atleast 3 official wars with our immediate neighbours.
JAI HIND !!
I haven’t seen many people writing about this, so I decided to write few lines about the recent reboot of Deviantart website. Deviantart website has always been based on a dark olive green colour theme, with each of its designs using the same colour. The latest design does not contain annoying dA posters, ads and extra click links for non-members. They profile page looks more organized and neat, not to forget the ajax used in displaying actual size images. Search options for non-members once blocked is open to all users. It seems that deviantART is now relying only on GoogleAds instead of their own ads.
Great tool for connecting to Internet using an anonymity proxy. Can also be used to access prohibited sites and applications from work/school. Comes with out-of-box support for Tor. Get it here.
Watched Omkara after reading several reviews and raves about the movie. The movie is nothing great, only a typical commercial movie set in rustic UP planes. The language throughout the movie is unnecessarilly abusive, most definately not what you expect in eastern UP. Bipasha Basu playing a UP girl is as big a misfit as Vivek Oberoi playing Kesho Firangi or Bahubali. The movie is no doubt a change from the rona-dhona era of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna but is not what some of the bloggers have given it marks for. So if you can spare some money and time, go and do a crash course in hindi abuses.
